Strategic Advisory vs. Consultancy: Understanding the Difference

The terms “consultant” and “advisor” are often used interchangeably, but they describe fundamentally different types of professional engagement. A consultant is typically engaged to deliver a specific output: a report, a feasibility study, a training programme. A strategic advisor, by contrast, is engaged to support decision-making over time — to be a thinking partner, a challenger and a guide through complex choices.
